Pitch Perfect (2012): A Case of LSS

For some reason, the movie Pitch Perfect has gone viral amongst many of us in school. It was like a lot of people would burst into song randomly. Maybe Pitch Perfect appealed to us since Filipinos really love to sing; naturally, my interest was piqued.

The movie Pitch Perfect has a simple plot. It’s about the battle of the vocal chords and the acapella groups. There were two dominant acapella groups in Barden University: the Barden Bellas led by Aubrey (Anna Camp) and the Treblemakers led by Bumper (Adam Devine). After a disaster in a previous international competition, the Barden Bellas want to redeem themselves in the next competition. What’s better for them: following strict tradition or change?

Although the plot was simple and easy to predict, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. The acapella harmonizing interested me and I think it will appeal to a lot of movie lovers who are into music. The acapella groups did amazing revival-covers of old-ish songs which made them sound better than the original (in my opinion).

Some interesting scenes to watch out for: first international competition of the Barden Bellas, the Riff-off, and the Final competition (with the Breakfast Club cover). For awhile, I got hooked on their covers of “I Saw the Sign” by Ace of Base, the Riff-off songs “Titanium” by David Guetta, and “Just the Way You Are” and “Only Just a Dream” Mash-up. I only wished that they did a separate recording of the Riff-off songs that they can include in their OST, especially the Songs About Sex Category.

Another thing about this movie that I MUST mention are the awesome characters. Yes, Beca (Anna Kendrick), Chloe (Brittany Snow) and Jesse (Skylar Astin) are great but Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and Lilly (Hana Mae Lee) are hilarious! They have really awesome lines that made me laugh out loud.
A movie for the ears and easy enjoyment. And a serious case of LSS. Aca-awesome!
