Pitch Perfect (2012): A Case of LSS

For some reason, the movie Pitch Perfect has gone viral amongst many of us in school. It was like a lot of people would burst into song randomly. Maybe Pitch Perfect appealed to us since Filipinos really love to sing; naturally, my interest was piqued.

Lars and The Real Girl (2007)

I was looking for my final rom-com movie to cap off my sembreak and stumbled upon a movie recommendation for Lars and The Real Girl. I was actually quite intrigued when I found out that Ryan Gosling was playing the lead character Lars and proceeded to watch it. After watching it, I have altogether mixed reactions, but not in a bad way.

Awkward (2011)

Awkward is a show about 15-year old wallflower Jenna Hamilton(Ashley Rickards) who gets a confrontational letter about how “she could disappear and no one would notice.” She gets rattled enough to take some steps out of her comfort zone and also winds up being stuck in very awkward situations (this is more of an understatement). How awkward? She becomes mistaken for an unstable, suicidal teenager because of an accident, gets involve in complicated relationship problems, and has to deal with how she perceives her family sees her (a load of baggage). Pretty typical socially awkward teenage situations? More or less.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

The Greek Wedding

I’m still making the most of my break right now and I got insight on the loud and colorful culture of Greece as I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The plot is set in Chicago: Toula Portakalos (Nia Vardalos), a 30-year old Greek woman who feels like the disappointment of her family because she find anyone Greek to marry. She meets Ian Miller (John Corbett), who is not Greek. This poses as a problem since according to tradition Greeks only marry Greeks and have Greek babies. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a romance-comedy that can teach you a lot about family and the Greek etymology of words.

The Prince and Me (2004)

Okay, so I’m still on a romantic comedy streak right here: The next on my must-watch list is The Prince and Me. A nice fairytale story—big change from Hawaiian themed 50 First Dates. Watching different romantic movies like this with all sorts of plots just goes to show that: you can find love anywhere—idealistic as it sounds. <3

Since it’s semestral break here for us right now (finally! :D), I’m now able to find some time to catch up on some movies to watch. Recently I just watched Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging directed by Gurinder Chadcha. This movie was based from the book Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging  and It’s OK, I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers by Louise Rennison.
